300m² silo lining! Here’s how it’s done!

The task:

A silo with about 300 m² of lining area should be brought back on track. The polyurethane sheets were intended to prevent direct contact from the conveyed medium to the silo walls, which have meanwhile corroded.

The implementation:

The customer opted for a combination of different lining variants. In the cylindrical area plates with expanded metal inserts in 8mm thickness were used. On the straight surfaces, 12mm thick plates with steel perforated metal insert were used and in the conical area of the drain, where the wear is most noticeable, 12mm thick plates with aluminum perforated metal insert were chosen. Screw heads were smoothed with the Hawipair® filler.

With such a project, it is worthwhile to think well beforehand which type of plate can be used in each area. In cooperation with the customer we carried out an analysis of the requirements in advance, determined the advantages and weak points of the individual products and determined the correct use in a cost-oriented manner.

 The main advantages were:

Expanded metal plates:
very good flexibility- also very thin available – weight saving-

Plates with perforated steel plate insert:
very stiff- well suited for large, straight surfaces- can be fastened with a few screws-

Plates with alu perforated sheet insert:
easy to bend- very thick available for high wear areas- weight-saving due to the lightweight aluminium-
